Memorial donations to help form new culinary club for high school

Unlike the Culinary Academy, the new Culinary Club at The Villages High School won’t have any bells or grades, teacher John Woods said.

Instead, members of the new student club will learn as they talk to chefs, visit their restaurants, eat the food and see how other chefs prepare the same food differently.

The club’s seed money comes from a $2,050 donation in memory of Dominick DeNinno, of the Village of Bonita. DeNinno’s childhood friend, Milt Casablanca, of the Village of St. Charles, took up a collection among DeNinno’s golf group and Elizabeth “Betty” DeNinno’s bridge group, Betty said.

“We were collecting money for a bench,” she said. “We got the bench, and there was money left over.”
