Cold shooting dooms Buffalo in opener

VHS guard Jacory Jackson finishes the layup against Paxon guard Daniel Watson in Monday’s opener.

Wishing to change his team’s shooting woes but helpless to do so, Colt McDowell looked toward the rafters inside the VHS Athletic Center. There were no answers to be found up there for the head coach of The Villages High School boys basketball team — nor on the court in front of him — as the Buffalo struggled to put the ball in the hoop throughout a 51-47 loss to Paxon School (Jacksonville) in the Battle at The Villages. VHS shot just 36% from the floor, missed 7-of-11 free throws and went a dispiriting 3-of-29 from behind the 3-point-line, eventually floundering to its lowest single-game point total thus far this season.
