A purchase of approximately 18,000 acres south of County Road 470 will create new possibilities for expanding the array of lifestyle amenities, The Villages announced Thursday.
The number of homes intended for the property has not been determined, though the typical pattern of two new homes per acre could mean up to 36,000. That number will ultimately be determined by resident feedback on desired amenities, said Kelsea Manly, director of operations.
The property will be used for agricultural purposes for some time, she said.
“Our designers continually listen to current and future Villagers about what they want their retirement dreams to look like,” Manly said. “Those insights help shape how and when new homes and amenities come together.”
Manly noted that resident comments have driven innovations in amenities such as the Marsh View Pitch & Putt in the Village of Marsh Bend; the Putt & Play in the Village of Fenney; the Dudley Canine Park and Archery Range near the Village of DeSoto; and the expansion of other new amenities across the community from nature trails to resort-style swimming pools and new sports complexes.
This latest purchase is another milestone in The Villages’ vision to provide “more lifestyle to love” for the nation’s growing population of retirees.
