Details for Susan Stapleton
Susan Marie Stapleton, 73 of Summerfield FL, passed away on November 16, 2019 at the Ted and Diane Brandley Hospice House. She was born January 13, 1946 in Kenosha WI. She is the daughter of Cora (Tyler) and Wayne Stapleton. Sue grew up in Grand Rapids, MI, and graduated from Mt. Mercy Academy High School. Her love of children with special needs led her to work as an aide at Mary Free Bed Orthopedic Hospital for Children.
Sue received her Practical Nursing Diploma in 1967 from Grand Rapids Junior College. She worked as an LPN at Butterworth Hospital in Grand Rapids. From 1970 to 1982 she lived in the Milwaukee WI area and worked in Psychiatric, Medical/Surgical and Long Term Care facilities.
Sue moved to central Florida in 1982 to be near her parents and worked at the FL Waterman Hospital and later in their Home Health division until she retired in 2008. She was an amazing caregiver and was knowledgeable, kind, compassionate; an excellent patient-advocate; an effective teacher; truly cared for her patients and made a real difference in their lives.
Sue friended, counseled and proudly sponsored many people through AA. She had strong faith and was a member of the Prayer Partners. Sue loved pets and usually had more than one. She loved all wildlife, especially birds and horses. She loved music and singing in the choir, camping, crosswords and Cheetos! Her smile was infectious and she had a great sense of humor, was a good listener and willing to help others in any way she could. Sue was preceded in death by her life partner of 20 years, Judy Jordan, in October 2018. She is survived by cousins: Linda (Tyler) Gotsche in Kenosha WI; Earl & Joyce Salminen in Tavares FL, and cousins in California.
She is also survived by her Godson, Todd Marshall, in Kenosha WI; many friends who have loved and helped her these past two years and her dog Molly. A special Thank You to Laura Gilmer, Administrator, and the entire staff of Higher Ground Assisted Living Facility in Belleview FL for the loving care Sue received in the last six months and to Hospice of Marion County for the wonderful care they provided.
