Details for Joanne Marie Gardner

On Saturday, October 12, 2019, Joanne Marie Gardner, loving wife, mother, grandmother, and friend, passed away at the age of 74.

Joanne was born on July 20, 1945 to Joseph and Jessie Simmons and raised in Millis, Massachusetts. She dedicated her life to serving others, acting as a Girl Scout leader and Hospice nurse. In her 40's after Joanne attained her nursing degree, she cared for patients undergoing cancer treatments. Joanne was an avid reader and experienced card player who was known to welcome people into her home with baked goods such as snickerdoodles and pumpkin bread. Lighting up the room with her laughter and sense of humor, many people came to know her as "Mom". She was also an accomplished dancer, teaching dance at the Fred Astaire Studio in Boston in her early years.

Joanne married her husband Richard in 1976, and together they raised their children, Lisa, Chuck, Mark, and Bryant in Hingham, Massachusetts. The family also has many fond memories of summers spent in Mattapoisett, Massachusetts. Joanne and Richard later moved to New Hampshire before finally retiring in The Villages, Florida.

Joanne is preceded in death by her parents and sister Barbara Marcus. She leaves behind her beloved husband Richard (Rich) of 43 years; brother, Eddie Simmons of Plymouth, Massachusetts; daughter, Lisa (Mike) Bard of Lake Worth, Florida; sons, Mark Cordeiro (Lee Bryars) of Newburyport, Massachusetts, Chuck (Bonnie) Cordeiro of Scituate, Massachusetts and Bryant (Kate) Gardner of Washington, D.C.; grandchildren, Victoria, Chase, Zachary, Amanda, Stella, Katherine, and Pearl; and

numerous family and friends.

The family will gather to celebrate her life in the coming months. In lieu of flowers please make a donation to Cornerstone Hospice of The Villages, Florida.
