Don Sines planned to go to law school, but his life changed when he enlisted in the military during World War II, then continued to serve during the Korean War and the Vietnam War. “I never quite got to law school,” said Sines, of Summerfield. Though it has been 50 years since he retired from service, on Tuesday he and other veterans from the Vietnam War era officially received the “welcome home” they never got.

The Stonecrest Veterans Club hosted a Vietnam War 50th Anniversary Commemoration to honor all veterans who served on active duty in the armed forces, regardless of location, between Nov. 1, 1955, and May 15, 1975.
