Trailwinds Village Adding restaurants, supermarket

Lowe’s Home Improvement was the first retail store that opened in Trailwinds in January, followed by Aldi and ABC Fine Wine and Spirits in May. Plans call for the retail center to add Wendy’s, Taco Bell and a grocery store that has yet to be identified.

Trailwinds Village is adding three new businesses.

Last week, Barclay Group, the developer of the retail center, filed permits to construct two new restaurants and a grocery store in Trailwinds, located in Wildwood off County Road 466A.

The developer disclosed plans for a Wendy’s, Taco Bell and a grocery store that has yet to be named.

The two freestanding restaurant buildings will be constructed the east of the recently opened Circle K convenience store and gas station.

Wendy’s will be directly to the east of Circle K, in a 2,585-square-foot facility. Taco Bell will be east of Wendy’s in an 1,888-square-foot facility.

They will be the first restaurants in Trailwinds Village.

As for the grocery store, the developer released plans of a 48,983-square-foot supermarket with a drive-through pharmacy.

Another freestanding building to the east of the grocery store contains two adjoining retail spaces, each sized at 8,400 square feet. Tenants have not been announced yet.

“I’m looking forward to (more growth),” said Jamie Vick, development services specialist with Wildwood. “It’s great for the community, I think people will really enjoy the things we have planned to go in there.”

Several stores already are open in Trailwinds Village.

Lowe’s Home Improvement was the first retail store that opened in Trailwinds in January, followed closely by Aldi and ABC Fine Wine and Spirits in May.

Wildwood commissioner Joe Elliott said the new dining and shopping establishments will mean good things for Wildwood.

City residents can anticipate new jobs. New stores also bring in sales tax revenue that ultimately helps improve the city.

“Taxable revenue is lubricant for growth within a city,” Elliott said. “It’s an exciting time of growth in Wildwood, and in cities beyond.”

Just a handful of years ago, if someone wanted to go shopping or eat out, they would have to go to Gainesville or Ocala, Elliott said.

“The future of Wildwood is extremely bright,” Elliott said.

Trailwinds Village is located at Northeast 57th Drive in Wildwood.
