Local football fans will have the opportunity to watch some of the best high school talent in the state of Florida on Saturday when the Florida Athletic Coaches Association North-South All-Star Classic hits the turf at the H.G. Morse Range at The Villages High School. The North team, led by VHS head coach Richard Pettus, consists of players from as far north as Tallahassee, while players have come from as far south as Miami to play on the South team, coached by East Lake’s Bob Hudson. The coaches have worked with the players since they arrived in The Villages on Wednesday morning. Still, the teams have only 12 hours of practice to learn a new system with new teammates and new coaches. “The big thing is just the terminology,” Pettus said. “We’ve got six practices and it’ll probably take us three practices just to get the terminology down.” The narrow window to prepare for the game means the players are absorbing tons of information at once.
