Pete Smith wanted a challenge.
That is why he and his playing group decided to move back from their usual spot at the gold tees to the black on Nov. 7 at Glenview Champions Country Club.
Early on, it did not look like Smith was going to shoot his age and match a course record.
“The second hole is a very short carry over a pond area and I hit my tee shot into the drain pipe,” Smith said. “It bounced out and I went down into the hazard, chipped it out and made double-bogey.”
