Saints on winning streak

THE VILLAGES —The Saints extended their winning streak to five games with a 16-7 victory over the Falcons on Monday in the National League West Division at Saddlebrook Softball Complex.
The Saints (7-2) took an early 2-0 lead in the second inning as Mark Rich led off with a single and scored on a sacrifice fly by Frank Fleischer. Ray Fleischer drove in a run with a single.
Dave Bronte put the Falcons (6-2) on the scoreboard with a triple in the bottom of the second inning.
Rich, who led the Saints with four hits and drove in four runs, slammed a two-run home run in the fourth inning, while George Rodriguez drove in a run with a single. Frank Fleischer gave the Saints a 7-1 lead with a two-run home run.
The Falcons added two runs in the bottom of the fourth inning with singles by Dave Czohara and Lee Hebert.
Mariano Ramos led off the sixth inning with a single for the Saints and scored on a double by Rich. Jack Nesci and Rodriguez each sent a run in with singles, while Frank Fleischer slammed two runs in with a triple to give the Saints a comfortable 12-3 lead.
Doug Woessner added a run for the Saints in the seventh inning with a single, while Ramos drove in a run with a double. Mike Christy sent a run in with a single, while Rich gave the Saints a
16-3 lead with a double.
Dennis Winchester led off the
seventh inning for the Falcons with a single and scored on a single by Tom DiSalvo. Bob Jacques drove in a run with a single, while Harold Holiman slammed a run in with a double. Czohara knocked in a run with a single.
Holiman and Czohara both had three hits for the Falcons in a losing effort.

The Steelers came from a 10-7 deficit to score four runs in the sixth inning and scored nine more in the seventh for a victory over the Titans.
John Zrinski led the Steelers (4-4) with five hits and drove in four runs. Herb Haber had four hits including a home run. Dave Barnes and Charlie Sheiner each had three hits.
Bill Crocker had three hits for the Titans
(6-3), while Billy Ray, Rich Mondrone and Ron Nicholson all had two hits.

The Dolphins scored five runs in the fourth inning and held on for a victory over the
Cowboys.
Mike Garvin led the Dolphins (8-1) with four hits. Pete Trendler, Jim Combes and Doug Dunn all had three hits.
Arnie Johnson had three hits including two triples for the Cowboys who fell to a 1-8 record. Joe D’Angelo and Lefty Fink also had three hits each in the losing effort.

The Bengals took an early 12-3 lead on their way to a victory over the Chiefs for their fourth consecutive win.
The Bengals (5-4) had three hits apiece from John Taranto, Jack Kleffman, Harold Blowey, Matt Spanier, Rich Pardi, Ed Honeycutt, Lou Damis, Ted Ramirez and Ed Richey.
Denny Semrau, Joe Cannon and Tim Smith all had three hits for the Chiefs who fell to a 3-5 record.

Bob Russell pitched a three-hitter to lead the Colts to a shutout mercy-rule victory over the Broncos.
Tom Lauterborn, Bruno Czaja and Larry Rivellese led the Colts (4-4) with three hits apiece.
Sarge Means, Larry Reeder and Mike Marquard all had a hit each for the Broncos who fell to a 1-8 record.

Bill Curtsinger drove in two runs with a triple and scored the game-winning run on a single by Fred Rhoades in the bottom of the seventh inning to give the Eagles a victory over the Patriots.
The Eagles’ (4-5) victory snapped a three-game losing streak. The Eagles had two hits apiece from Rhoades, Bill Ramsey, Rick Laferriere, Mike Smith, Dan Sabato and Curtsinger.
Lindsay Lowe and Ray Pinheiro both had three hits for the Patriots who fell to a 3-5 record.
