Yankees win fourth straight game

THE VILLAGES — Ralph Bari drove in the game-winning run with a single in the bottom of the eighth inning to give the Yankees a 4-3 extra-inning victory over the Indians on Thursday in the American League at Knudson Field.

Following The Villages extra-inning rule, Yankees’ Hank Hovermayer — who was the final out in the seventh inning — started the eighth inning at second base. He then scored the game-winning run on Bari’s single as the Yankees improved to 8-17-1 in their fourth consecutive win.

Chick Canby gave the Yankees an early 2-0 lead in the second inning with a two-run single.

Howard Oschmann reached base for the Indians (12-15) in the third inning on his single and scored on Al Guarillio’s single, cutting the deficit to 2-1.

The score would remain the same until the seventh inning as Joe Burns led off for the Indians with a single and scored on a single by Joe White. George Fluger gave the Indians a 3-2 lead with a single.

The Indians had two hits from Guarillio, White, Fluger, Oschmann and Dick Johnson.

Canby reached base for the Yankees in the bottom of the seventh inning with a single and advanced to third base on John Smith’s double.
