Cavaliers come from behind with nine runs

THE VILLAGES — The Cavaliers kept their season alive by scoring nine runs in the seventh inning for a 13-8 victory over the Magic on Monday in the first round of the National League South Division Tournament at Saddlebrook Softball Complex.
Ralph Kolesar led off the seventh inning for the Cavaliers with a single and later scored on a single by Bernie Lindquist. Don Johnson slammed in two runs with a triple and later scored on a single by Jack Rogers. Paul Andrasko, Mike Thurik, Charlie Urbany and Kolesar all drove in a run with singles. Don Evans drove in the ninth run with a fielder’s choice.
The Magic started the bottom of the seventh inning on back-to-back doubles by Dave Thorpe and Doug Berry. Dave Zuehlke sent a run in with a single, while Earle Moore also sent a run in with a single. Jack Moore flied out to end the game and the season for the Magic.
Andrasko gave the Cavaliers a 1-0 lead in the first inning with a single. Kolesar and Johnson led the Cavaliers with three hits each.
Thorpe gave the Magic their first run of the game with a double in the third inning. After Berry drew an intentional walk, Dave Harrington grounded into an inning-ending double play to keep the score tied at 1-1.
Dean Stevenson gave the Magic a 2-1 lead in the fourth inning with a single. Earle Moore led the Magic with four hits, while Thorpe and Zuehlke each had three hits.
The Cavaliers scored three runs in the fifth inning to take a 4-2 lead on RBI singles by Lindquist, Johnson and Rogers.
Harrington sent a run in for the Magic in the bottom of the fifth inning with a single, while Zuehlke sent two runs in with a single to give the Magic a 5-4 lead.

in five innings
The Timberwolves breezed past the first round with a mercy-rule victory over the Rockets.
Louis Van Burger and Lenny Lewis led the Timberwolves with three hits each. Brad Reese had two doubles, while six other players had two hits.
Sonny Zahn drove in the lone run for the Rockets in the first inning with a single. The Rockets had five hits off the Timberwolves’ defense.

The Pacers came from last-place team in the tournament to an upset victory over the second-seed Wizards.
Terry Penrod, Howard Bloch, George Dawson and Ron Pearson led the Pacers with four hits apiece. Bill East, Dale Appleby and Frank Maday all had three hits. The Pacers will face the Cavaliers on Thursday on Field 2 at 8:30 a.m.
Mike Varga paced the Wizards with four hits, while Bob Lyons, Tom Brechtel, Larry Cutalo and John Smeby all had three hits.

John Dragotta drove in the game-winning run with a triple in the bottom of the seventh inning to give the 76ers a victory over the Hornets.
Rich Cohee and Larry Rothkugel led the 76ers with three hits each, while five other players had two hits.
Paul Provance had four hits for the Hornets, while Richard Kerzner and Frank Maday both chipped in with three hits.
