Yoga instructor’s age and energy arouse disbelief
By THERESA CAMPBELL, DAILY SUN
The Villages is home to many amazing residents who exemplify the importance of taking care of yourself, exercising and living life with a positive spirit.
Adela Choquet is a fascinating gal in my book, because the vibrant yoga instructor at The Villages Wellness Center can strike yoga poses and has a toned, slim body that even teenagers would envy.
Best of all, Adela proves age is a state of mind.
She is celebrating her 91st birthday today with a noon luncheon hosted by her students at Lopez Legacy Country Club. Yes, she’s 91.
“She is a marvel. Nobody would say she looks older than 60,” said Elizabeth Chayet, one of Adela’s devoted students. “We really love her. I have done yoga for quite a number of years, but Adela is really the best. Just her manner of teaching is far superior to anyone I have ever had.”
Chayet noted that her favorite instructor continues to be passionate about yoga, teaching classes at the center three days a week — Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday.
“She will still be teaching yoga at 100; I wouldn’t be surprised,” Elizabeth said. “She is such a good teacher and she brings out the best in everyone.”
Happy birthday, Adela. Enjoy your day and the outpouring of affection from fellow Villagers. You deserve it!
Another amazing couple in The Villages are Sheldon “Shelly” Morjoseph and his wife Myrna. The pair are among the hundreds of devoted auxiliary members of The Villages Regional Hospital, but the Morjosephs’ minds are often on extra fundraising projects they can do to benefit the hospital.
The couple, for the second year, will lead a fundraising cruise for the hospital that will set sail Jan. 20 to the western Caribbean.
“We will be sailing from Tampa on Royal Caribbean Legends of the Seas,” Shelly said. Ports of call are George Town, Grand Cayman; Costa Maya, Belize; and Cozumel, Mexico. Prices for the seven-day cruise start at $799. The fee includes a $25 per person donation to the auxiliary, which will be matched by the cruise line. Sixty residents already have registered, and the Morjosephs hope to have 30 more.
“Myrna and I love doing this; it’s giving back to the community,” Shelly said. “Last year we had 46 go and we had a wonderful time.”
To learn more about the January cruise, call the Morjosephs at 259-2753.
